Replacing a FUNCTIONAL CAT is illegal-- CATS have 80K warranty or more
on new cars. CATS that are damaged, physically, can be replaced at any
exhaust
Shop. Now... that BIG old hole in my cat from that piece of metal that
flew
Up from the road, was reason enough to replace the cat (grin).

In California, I think it is illegal to have any aftermarket cat on your
car. Has to come from the dealer. I have friends who own an exhaust shop
and
they said BAR is coming down hard on shops that install aftermarket cats
on
late model cars.

I have a 97 3.9l rc 4x4 truck... and I've taken it to a couple exhaust
guys
and they say that it has an illegal cat on it, which doesnt really
supprise
me, however I didnt put it on there. I was wondering if there is such a
thing as a super wide open cat thats street/smog legal in california...

I am pretty sure my cat is on the outs... and I am also pretty sure I
will
have to do a smog test soon... I just dont want to lose all that
wonderfull
noise =) Is the carsound cat, california legal, and if so and I decide
to
buy... will I have a problem finding somone that will put it on for me?

Wes
