My two heaviest non-trailered loads in my 93 V6 5 speed 2wd were 1) hauling 3 sections of 4-8' telephone poles and 2) two snowmobiles (don't ask how I got them in that bed :).
Both loads were low and heavy, but I had no problems driving long distances with them. Just slow down over those speed bumps :)
