New Engine Break In

This is my first brand new high performance vehicle, and I want to make sure
I do everything right. Are there certain things I should to properly break
in the engine, things I shouldn't do? I've heard that I'll actually have
more power after the engine is broken in, one guy said around 5,000 miles,
that sound right?
