I have had my Jet Stage II for over a year and still say it offers the most
bang for the buck. The stock PCM does not compensate for it...all I suggest
is that you always run premium fuel. Here is my summary of the most common
mods for the 4.7, I am sure many will argue (especially the product
manufacturers) but here goes anyway:
Jet Chip II is worth maybe 10-25 hp and even a bit more torque
Mopar Performace PCM is good for the same 10-25hp if you can get one or
arrange for a custom flash
Z Tube, good for a bit of noise and maybe a few hp on top end
Cat back exhaust adds lots of noise but makes 0 hp and may even take some
away
Ported TB or 68mm TB is good for maybe 5 or so hp
Headers are again good for nothing but noise and maybe a loss of hp
IAT, I haven't tried, but it works on same principle as Jet Chip to trick
PCM to advance timing so I assume it works but not sure to what extent
Superchargers work but the ones offered seem to be problematic and they void
the warranty
HO Cam looks promising but have not tried it
I think any serious gains would involve tearing into the engine or replacing
it!!!
Don't expect miracles because even a 25hp increase is only about 10%
additional and really is not much when pushing a 4000 - 5000 lb vehicle.

I know this topic has prolly been covered on the list time and time
again, so I'll try to keep this short and sweet. I have an opportunity
to pick up a slightly used Jet Stage I for $100. The current owner is
putting together a crate engine and wont be able to use it anymore.
After numerous searches on dodgedakotas.com and elsewhere, it seems the
opinion on the Jet Chip's ranges from love 'em to hate 'em, with an even
number for each. There also seems to be a bunch of misinformation and
disagreement regarding how they work etc (and on how WELL they work).
Oddly enough, it didnt seem very many of the guys talking about it had
ever even used one.
First of all, the Jet chip changes the readings that are sent _OUT_ of
the PCM correct? Cuz otherwise, it seems the PCM would be compensating
for the altered readings and eventually getting everything back to stock
values.
To spare the rest of the list, could I get some of you 4.7L guys using
(or who have used) either a Jet stage I or II to email me (
tb.crm@verizon.net ) with your comments? My current (and definitely
planned mods) are listed below:
z tube
catback with flowmaster, dual 2 1/4" outlet
carsound cat
fastman TB
i know that the IAT adjuster is said to provide the same tangible
benefits as the jet chips, just trying to get all the (reliable and
knowledgable) information possible before making a decision. also, i
just read that the IAT adjusters are on "indefinite hold". like many
guys who are married w/ children, i seem to have misplaced the money
tree growing in the back yard so i like to make the best use out of what
i do have.
thanks in advance...
