You involve your company because,
1) It's their job
2) Since it is not an accident charged to you, it should not raise your
rates
3) The homeowner's company may give you trouble that your own insurance
company will be able to handle for you
4) If you are uncertain, call your car insurance company and ask them,
they will guide you.
5) If you have a problem, contact your State Insurance Commissioner

Why involve your company at all? So your rates can go up?
If it's being subrogated to the homeowner's co, why involve your own?
Another way to force you to file claims, thus raising YOUR rates AND the
homeowners.
