You hit the speed limiter, not the rev limiter. The rev limiter stops you
from going beyond the PCM's expected redline, not necessarily the one that's
on your tach. I don't remember what the standard redline is for the 4.7's
with the standard PCM.

If, it is an '01 I can confirm the speedo cutting out. I was racing a guy
once on a 4-lane highway (totally safe, no one around for a couple of miles
and dead straight road) and I hit the rev limiter on my '01 QC and it was
either around 110 or 115. HTH.
