i have "heard" that it's at 5500, but thats the same place i picked up
the 98mph speed limiter which may turn out to be untrue in my
case...we'll see in a couple weeks

You hit the speed limiter, not the rev limiter. The rev limiter stops
you from going beyond the PCM's expected redline, not necessarily the
one that's on your tach. I don't remember what the standard redline is
for the 4.7's with the standard PCM.

If, it is an '01 I can confirm the speedo cutting out. I was racing a
guy once on a 4-lane highway (totally safe, no one around for a couple
of miles and dead straight road) and I hit the rev limiter on my '01 QC
and it was either around 110 or 115. HTH.
