Don,
You can use motor oil without a problem (or any other fine parts oil). The
"preferred" lube would be lithium grease. You can get this in either a
spray can or tube.

What is the best type of grease or lubricant to use on the door hinges? An
old timer I lived next to as a kid would take a few drops of motor oil and
drip it on the top of the moving parts of the hinges, every other oil change
he did. Never did see any rust around the doors of his old cars (:-p What
about a spray oil, thicker then WD-40? Maybe a white luthemem grease spray?
