Unfortunately, I never tried this myself when we had our '98, but I have
seen several people doing it. It's one of these things where some people
say it works fine, and others say that the 8" wheel has too much backspace
for the front gen II suspension and rubs slightly. I'm inclined to think
that the ones who say it's fine have never checked at full suspension
extension and steering lock to see if it clears. Most of the time on the
street you wouldn't have to worry about the extreme cases, though. I'm
almost positive the rear would be fine. There's lots of clearance back
there. Possibly it could also just be one of those things that depends
on manufacturing tolerances, and on some trucks it truly does fit without
any possibility of rubbing.
An alternative would be wheel spacers, depending on how you feel about
those.
Why the question? You aren't thinking of selling a set of them to me or
anything, are you? :-)
