Parking brake pedal slack?

Hi all,
Though my truck's automatically-impaired, I use my parking brake on hills
for two reasons: a) I was taught that it's just a good idea, and b) if I
don't, it's a pain to get out of park. Well, I noticed tonight that when I
release the brake, the pedal doesn't come all the way up, it stays just far
enough down to trigger the light, but not drag the brake. Is there a return
spring or something I can adjust? If I bump the pedal up with my foot,
all's well - though there's a lot of slack between where it starts clicking
and the furthest I can push it up? - until I use it again. Thanks.
