Funny, I thought the same thing - til I entered into a machinist
apprenticeship. They spelled it "gage", too.Even in the "Machinist's
Handbook" the spelling it the same way. Unfortunately, we had to take some
technical writing in the apprentice school & we drove the teacher nuts. She
just couldn't believe that 37 guys could misspell the same word!
