Okay, I don't have a FSB for my recently purchased 92 yet, and I had to have
"emergency roadside assistance" two weeks ago in Grayson, KY for a dead fuel
pump.
Pump was changed ($430!!) but where is the filter located? I've not looked
yet.
Pump gave a hint it was going belly up the previous day. I didn't think it
was the pump. Drove maybe 20 miles on way to friend's house and stopped on
the way to purchase some adult beverages. Upon starting the truck, it didn't
want to idle. Ran fine at 1500 rpm and higher for maybe 30 seconds, then all
was fine. As I had just purchased fuel, I thought maybe some junk in the
fuel, and would add a can of fuel system cleaner in the morning.
Next morning about 400 miles later, it quit-not while going down the
highway, but as I got to the top of an off ramp and the engine returned to
idle.
Luckily a Dodge dealer was across the highway.
Symptom was the engine cranked-very fast-but would not start, almost as if
the timing chain had jumped a few teeth. After cooling, the engine did
start, but barely ran, again, as if the timing chain had jumped a few teeth.
I know what that is like, I've experienced it a few times.
Dealer diagnosed low fuel pressure (3.5#) and ordered the pump.
Since the pump was changed, is the filter part of the pump, or is it
external of the tank? Don't want to make the pump fail prematurely due to a
potentially partially clogged fuel filter.
TIA,
Jon
