Internal, but I would worry if it spiked like that. I'd hate to see you
kill your music system. To be safe I'd check the output from the
alternator.

Sounds like the voltage regulator went "nut's" for a minute
problem is I don't know if the regulator is built into the alternator or is
a function controlled by the PCM or if our
trucks have a body module,.........I'd be willing to bet the regulator is
internal on the alternator! Have it checked out.
