I tried it on my '97 and it didn't do anything. Anything else required?

"For a '97-'00, while holding the trip odometer, turn the key to the ON
position. The needles will move to 3 stops."

BTW: If you physically move the needles, which you have to do with the
dash plates, how does the cluster reset itself if the needles aren't in
the correct position?
