Yep, Tony is right - I'm looking to minimize effective gear ratio
loss due to larger tires. I think one of the core rules off
off-roading is that too much gear is never enough. ;-) My Ram
came stock with 3.54s and (approx) 29" tires. If I put 35s
under it, it would be the same as if I left the tires alone and
swapped to 2.92s. By swapping the gears out for 4.56s (and using
the opportunity to get a locker in the rear) ;-) it would be as
if I upgraded my 3.54s to 3.77s. This is why I was looking for
even shorter gears. 3.77 is better than 3.54, but if I was to find
something around 5s, my "effective rear end ratio" would be a
more off-roading friendly 4.10 or so, while still being manageable
on the highway. Also, with a little 318 Magnum for motivation,
this truck can use all the gear it can get on the highway. :-)

Considering that Dodge offered gear ratios up into that 4.10
range, I'm fairly certain there is a speedo gear that would be a
fairly close match; if not, the signal can probably be
electronically altered.
