I think the pressure the book is referring to is the pressure internal to
the oil filter. If the system pressure is 30 psi and the oil filter becomes
clogged, the oil pressure on the entire system will increase due to a
detected blockage. If the system senses an increase of 9-15 PSI at the
filter, the bypass valve opens and oil flow goes around the filter thus
assuring an adequate supply of oil to the engine.

Anybody else have an idea if this is correct?
