In order for you to get the required amount of airspace you are probably
gonna have to remove the under seat "parcel tray" or whatever that thing is
called. You can also stuff the box with poly fill (pillow stuffing) to make
the enclosure seem larger to the speaker. I wanted to do that very same
thing, but just ended up putting my 12" woofer behind the driver's seat b/c
i didn't feel like going thru that hassle. The clear covers you've seen
over the woofers are probably in a bandpass enclosure type. They sound
pretty decent, but take up LOTS of space because you have to have all this
airspace in front of the woofer then as well. It's a science! Good luck
with your project, let us know how it turns out!

Oh, you also might want to take a look at JL Audio's stealthboxes...they
make an enclosure that fits in the cavity under the rear bench. I'm not
sure if you can buy it unloaded though. Probably worth a look.
