someone tell that to my brakes! i've got 16,000 miles on my new brakes and
they started squealing the other day. looks like i'm going to have to
change them out. and i do a lot of tranny braking (nothing serious, just to
help out the cause- of stopping).
i'm upgrading to the powerslots this summer (along with new tires), and
hopefully i'll be able to get some braking improvements over the crap i have
now!

The reason your brakes are lasting longer is because of the 5spd tranny. You
probably down shift while coming to a stop. That uses the engine and gearing
to slow you down, requiring less break usage. I traded my 2k 5spd 2wd with
45k miles and had no break problems. I now have a 2001 QC 4wd auto with 34k
miles and now i need break.
