<I noticed that when manually opening throttle, I could hear this
deep-throated moan
coming from inside air intake as throttle body flaps opened up. And more
what appears to be kinda dry sooty
splatter being thrown out the tailpipe.>

Will, How strong is the volume (as in amount) and velocity of the exhaust?
If the velocity were way down, I still would suspect the matrix in the cat
breaking down and plugging the outlet and you're seeing bits of catalyst
matrix and soot on the driveway.
If that's the case, you have an eight cylinder, positive displacement air
compressor trying to pump into a shut off discharge. When this happened on a
previous vehicle of mine, in addition to the power loss, the exhaust
manifold would glow dull red, not so visible in daylight but pretty clear at
night.
I would start pulling spark plugs and inspecting them. If they are all oily,
you may have a ruptured plenum gasket in the lifter VALLEY and you're
burning lots of oil.
Other possibilities are an engine timing shift.
