A lower ratio (numerically higher) will give you more punch, at the
expense of higher engine RPM and slightly less gas mileage on the road.
For a daily driver that also needs grunt on the track, a 3.90 is
probably as low as you want to go. I had 3.55 gears in my '99 and it
was a bit of a dog accelerating. I've got 3.92s in my '03 and it's much
zippier (different engine/tranny too though) - I wouldn't go lower given
the amount of highway miles I drive.
