Yea, I have had a terrible time trying to get those off in the past...the shoes really don't want to let loose! I've sat there and banged on them for 30 minutes before...but i have never had an noise from the rear. Matter of fact i don't even think they are stopping me much. Will adjust once i'm done with the locker remove/install AGAIN!

        Make sure the e-brake is not on. You shouldn't have to adjust the star
        wheel unless the shoes are so dug into the drum that it is physically
        binding it on. I'v only seen that once and it made a HORRIBLE sound when
        braking. you may have to bang on the drum with a rubber mallet, but other
        than that should be straight forward.
