Even considering that, those rates are ludicrous unless you've got one
of the worst credit ratings on the planet. And even then it's high.
Consider that mortgage rates, usually far above any other loan for
purchase of a large-ish asset, were lower than that back then. And I
got under 7.5% from a bank when I bought my first truck, still in
college, in March '99.

I wouldn't swear off all dealers, just that particular group.

Depends on how much work the dealer is willing to do for you. Mine said
they check through a dozen financing providers to see what rates & terms
they can get for their customers.
