All of which can be done with a decent news/mail client as well (ignore
thread/mark thread read/ignore sender, etc.). And far faster. There's
a reason NNTP (newsgroups) has survived for what, 20 years? It's much
easier for me to follow the DML than the several web forums I'm a member of.
Plus, having it more of a chore to access from work is a bonus to me. I
don't want it to be easy for me to get distracted at work by
reading/posting on the DML.

In the nearly 5 years I have been on this list, I can count on one hand
with fingers left over the number of times a "moderator" might have been
needed. This is a self-policing group, and it works damn well. As soon
as you introduce a moderation system, people will start getting up in
arms about how they're being treated onfairly, or will just start
posting inappropriate material.

A few months ago I independently started on a visual redesign of the DML
site (including some shuffling of where things are) but stalled as I got
real busy at work and time just didn't allow. Plus, I'd started it
without talking to Jon and found out that the software needed for what I
had already built wasn't on the server (PHP). I do intend to revisit it.
