BTW: A majority of the folks on the web lists use either synthetic or a
much higher quality oil than the rest (in most cases). Running
synthetic (or a higher quality oil) reduces the chances of "sludging up"
the engine...with regular oil change intervals. The complaints are
there, just not as many on the web boards.

Toyota and Lexus also have had this same issue (4 and V6) and it was
related to cooling system problems - too cold in certain spots with
hot-spots in others....causing the oil sludge buildup.

It's there...

I've got a few pictures of a 360 that grenaded due to that problem (hole
in oil pan as well). It was warrantied by the dealership.

With message boards and mailing list since the early/md 90s they kept
this secret for over a decade??

Hard to swallow.....

Why would it affect the 318 and not the 360 BTW?
