What would you consider to be a higher quality oil, short of
synthetic?
I've currently got about 43,000 miles on my '00 4.7. I've been
contemplating the switch to synthetic for a while, but I have some
concerns. A while back (twice actually), I had a very slow oil leak
which the dealer fixed both times, under warranty, and said that it
was caused by a loose valve cover. After the second time, it hasn't
happened again, but the potential for the synthetics clearing out the
dino "patches" has always worried me a bit, as I would prefer to avoid
the cost of having to have those fixed for the time beings. The
relative cost of buying synthetic oil doesn't really bother me,
though.
And then there's the people who say that you shouldn't switch to
synthetic oil except in the beginning (after the break-in, of course).
Since you're quite an expert authority figure around here Bernd, I'd
feel better about deciding with your input :)
