new idea for christine

my friend alan and I (the place to stay in Cleveland) just worked out
something that might be able to avoid towing Christine 800 miles.

if you've got time to give me a hand this weekend, Jon, I think we
might be able to get her running again.

all autos are is a bunch of valves and fans. water shouldn't be able
to do too much damage, but would certainly make it work Not Right. if
the valve body is pulled, dismantled and cleaned out, then the trans
*thoroughly* flushed and bands adjusted it will either Work or Not Work.

if it Works, then there's the reliability issue: will it Keep Working
for 800 miles? testing is the only way to find out.

(this is all assuming the shop is otherwise unspoken for and I can just
barge in and use it)

if I head down after my running around this friday (1st), I can get it
pulled apart that night. Then saturday (2nd) I can hopefully get it
cleaned up and put back together. The issue becomes finding a trans
shop to do a very good flush that is close enough to pull the truck to,
and is open on a saturday. then I'll take my truck back to Rochester
on Sunday (3rd), knowing that either Christine is Not Working or Maybe
Working.

I need to be back on sunday (3rd) by 1400 to pick up my household's
other car owner at the Rochester airport.

if Christine is dead, the towing is a Go.

if she is Maybe Working, hopefully I (or Jon) can take a few local
trips, and if it seems reliable, then on monday (4th) I can have the
security of someone to pick me up if Christine breaks, and trade trucks
for a week to test. if Christine Keeps Working for the 200+ miles I
can put on her, she ought to Keep Keep Working, and Tom could come out
and pick her up 'whenever' after I swap trucks back on friday (8th) for
the start of my drive home.

Alternatively, after putting that many miles on without anything
breaking, I don't think I'd feel too bad about flat towing her with a
draw bar (assuming her t-case has true neutral) - I do *not* want to do
that to her if there might be other things wrong, though, which is why
it's out of the question right now. That may be cheaper and would
certainly be a bit easier on my truck.

If she breaks while I'm using her, then I can have becky drive me to
Jon's, get my truck and tow her all the way home on my way home on the
weekend of the 8-9-10th.

Thoughts?
Jon? Tom? (whom I have yet to hear from and will call tomorrow) Anyone
Else?
