I had a timing chain fail on a '69 318 (same basic design) once, and all it
did was shut the engine down.

It had started to knock a little in the week prior to letting go and I later
found it had been beating on the timing case cover..........LOL

No damage was done, just took me a
couple hours to figure out what had happened to it.

My grandfather and I spent about 4 hours in the garage swapping it out....

Only bad part was the 318 finally failed for good when the rings and head
gaskets let go 2 months later.......
