hey all - couple questions for yall:
so my headers have been on for about two weeks. is there any consensus
on whether I could get away with pulling my right side header without
having to track down a new gasket?
If need-be, will I be able to hit a parts store and get a header gasket
for a 318/360 Magnum block? or exhaust gasket material that I could
cut one out of?
I wish I'd thought to do things in the right order, but I really wanted
to get my headers on for LeVa..... Now I've found that to get drilling
clearance for mounting my oil filter relocation kit, having that header
out of the way would make life far easier. I'm thinking as long as I
use plenty of ultra copper and let it set up completely before running
the truck I should be okay, but I've got *no* experience with exhaust
seals. thoughts?
since I know there were questions on the filter relocation kit:
I've figured out where I can put the mount (right frame rail just ahead
of the engine mount, using a 1.5"x2" steel L bracket to move the mount
high enough to easily clear steering gear). Of course I have yet to
find out whether I can get away with the large filter, and I don't know
if I'll be able to change my filters without pulling the skid plate
adam gave me (since I have yet to try and put that up).
I think the skid plate will wait for daktoberfest so I can get on the
lift and make it hopefully easier to align to drill new holes -- no way
I'll get my torsion bar crossmember straight again. I'm due for an o/c
now, though, so it would be nice to get the filter relocation ready to
go.
Maybe I can get SS braid and AN ends ordered to swap in at Jon's in a
warm garage, or else it can wait until spring. I'm going to use the
provided rubber hose and nipple fittings for a little while in order to
get a good feel for where I want hoses to run and what angle ANs will
be best and such.
BTW - jon - do you think you'd be up for a little powdercoating job on
the friday night of daktoberfest? I'm going to give that angle bracket
a healthy dose of primer to keep rust at bay, but I think powdercoating
may give it a bit more life, and that would be a Good Thing. or will
the "rust-inhibiting" primer with a few coats of paint be just as good?
