From the earlier conversation about the transfer case shifters, it looks
like we managed to get Kyle's attention even though he's not currently
subscribed. He sent me the following message off-topic, and okayed me to
forward it to the list. I think he covered it better than I could.

>Hi this is Kyle Kozubal. I have been sort of reading the DML archives. I
>see that guy has a 4WD engagement problem with his Dak.......like I did.

>Tell his to first flush the tcase. Yes flush it! I once changed the ATF in
>my DAK's tcase to some synthetic stuff and the lever would pop out of 4HI.
>I was given a $700 repair estimate and told I may need a rebuild or a new

>That guy might need a rebuild. However, for $20 try a tcase flush. Tell
>him to FULLY let the tcase drain up. That means taking out the fill AND
>drain plug and let the fluid drain out. The buy some cheap ATF+3 (that is
>what my NP231 tcase took anyways) and pour 2 quarts through the tcase,
>with both plugs out and just let the fluid flow right out. Let this drian
>out for like an hour so everything is drained out!!! The put the drain
>plug back in and fill it with ATF+3. He should have an NP231 in that Dak
>so it should also take ATF+3.
>
>MAKE SURE he uses ATF+3 in that tcase for the flush and the refill!! It
>fixed my problem and my Dak is still running STRONG at 165,000
>miles..............the 4WD system works GREAT TOO! I sold that to my Dad
