Yeah really. :-P It gets worse - even if you have a pistol
permit (which is good across the entire state) it doesn't apply
in NYC! You need a special NYC permit in order to carry/posess/touch
a pistol there!

I'm not 100% sure on the regulations for rifles though I know
they are more lenient. I believe anyone can buy a rifle or shotgun
at Walmart if they pass a NICS check, and they don't have to be
registered.
