Pretty standard fare. I think my brother's insurance will total if the
damage is 66% or more of the vehicle's value.

Seems low to me too. My accident last year was $6600 and this one is a
lot worse.

Pretty sure the insurance company gets to make the call on whether to
repair or total. They're the one paying for it.

Depends on what Wisconsin's laws are. In NY I can use any repair shop I
want, I am not required to take one the insurance company tells me to
use (Geico asked me "where are you taking it?" - didn't even attempt to
push me). Definitely get an independent opinion on the estimate if you
aren't comfortable with it - have someone else (qualified, of course,
but affiliated w/ the dealership or State Farm) look the vehicle over.
And keep in mind that if more things are discovered once the shop tears
the vehicle down, they will likely call State Farm back to re-evaluate
(this also happened to me with my accident - increased the repair bill
from the original $4900 to the $6600 I ended up at).
