In my experience with the friction modifier issue,lack of it in an LSD would
cause a low speed axle "ping"not a whine on the highway.I just remmedied
this ping last week after 5000 miles without it.According to the FSM it is
only required in the "sure grip" differential.You might want to find out if
your synthetic oil already has it.Red Line does. Steve
