I think they are pretty good on late model trannies but remember this is a
franchise so each shop ie independently owned a d quality may vary a bit.
Don't, however, take classic car trannies to many shops because they dont
have any training on them and probably no parts either. I took my bosses
classic 57 Chevy with the original cast iron powerglide to ammco and they
said none of them had ever even seen a tranny that looked like that and had
no idea what to do with it. They wanted to put a turbo 350 tranny in it
which could have been made to work but would have ruined the perfect classic
status of the car. This goes for C5 cast iron cruise-o-matics and
powerflites too. I bet many do not know that the original 2 speed
powerflite shared engine oil with the engine instead of tranny fluid and
each oil change required 11 quarts! There were no known dependability
problems with them either. Try that on a ferd or cheby tranny and see how
long it would last!
