I have a 2WD SLT and had to go to that Sears 3 ton also..that thing is
heavy! I use 6 ton jack stands..ever been under a car when a stand broke?
I have...I had the regular jack under that side but dropped down about an
inch..caught the Malibu I was under. My hand got pinched so hard, it split
around my thumb...took 39 stitches..shoulda seen me pumping that jack up
with one hand and leg...the other hand was caught in the coil spring...it
was ugly. To this day, I use good stands and keep the floor jack braced up
as a back up.

I've had both my trucks up on jackstands for quite a while (several hours)
with
some "pounding" (breaking lower shock bolts loose) and had no reason to be
concerned. Just make sure the top of the jackstand cradles the framerail
decently.
You must have a 2WD? I had to go up to the Craftsman 3-ton "big" jack for
my
4x4 - anything smaller reached its maximum lift just when it reached my
framerail.
