I made new plates when I installed the 6.5" speakers that are in there
now... 1/4" masonite works very well for that type of application. I had
bought the scoche adapter plates from crutchfield, but they were a touch
small for the speaker baskets and I didn't feel like modifying them.
Crutthfield refunded the money and I used the masonite. TonyC has the
adapter plates now, and apparently they work very well for him.
We used to make all sorts of mounting stuff out of masonite when I worked in
the stereo shop... it works very well, and is inexpensive. Just use a
nut/bolt combo for fastening the speaker to it and you can re-use the
factory speaker screws to hold the whole unit into the door.
