FWIW, the article says they use pre-'76 castings that are sonic checked and
the shop has a good reputation. They compete on the track with their own
SS/A Hemi Barracuda. Now having said all that, I too would be concerned
about boring a 318 that much. You certainly wouldn't get another bore
cleanup after that when this one wears out.
Minor correction....the stock 360 has a 4.000 bore. The 340 is a 4.040
bore.
On another note, my machine shop has seen 4 of the 4" CAST stroker cranks
fail. One of the rod journals broke off on each. No bearing problems, just
the casting broke. His recommendation is, above 450 HP or 6000 rpm, use the
steel stroker crank.
