The reason I am asking is that a friend has one that he wants to give me but he has no filter for it. I assume it's a relocation kit, but I was hoping some of the list amsoil fans would speak up and clarify for me...

I am not aware that Amsoil makes a filter relocation kit. They do have a
by-pass filter kit which routes a small percentage of the oil through a special
filter that removes very small particles. You still have a standard filter in
the the system that all your oil is routed through.
It is a special filter but it likes has a standard mounting that would allow a
standard filter to screw on, but that defeats the purpose of the system.
