I buy most things from Crutchfield. Sometimes I don't, though.

In December I bought two Pioneer DEH-P7500MP head units. They run
$349.99 at Crutchfield. That would have been over $700 by the time I
paid for shipping.

I was able to get both for $525 shipped, including sales tax. With
the money that I saved, I was able to order the installation kit and
wiring harness to install one of them in my girlfriend's car, as well
as some new (good, but not great) speakers for her car. And I still
saved.

I could have gotten those speakers cheaper from somewhere else, but I
wanted Crutchfield installation guide for her car and the free speaker
brackets and speaker wiring adapters.

The other head unit was for my truck, which I already had a kit and
harness for from the last stereo I bought (from Crutchfield) back in
2000.

In short, my rule is to buy from Crutchfield when:
- I might need to return something (i.e. don't know if it will fit,
don't know how it will perform, etc.)
- I want the free accessories that are a pain to find elsewhere
(installation kits, wiring harnesses, adapters, etc.)
- I want the support (i.e. replacing gear in a car that I haven't
worked on before)

The support really does rock, and you can't beat their return policy.
Free return shipping on any item (used or not, in the original
packaging or not), no questions asked, no "restocking fee."
