Well, that, and the "Windows Update? I don't have time for that
crap!" attitude.
It takes about 10 minutes a month to keep a desktop computer secure
once you get the hang of it but most people still can't be bothered.
Then there's the ones who click on everything in sight. Those are the
same ones who start "wandering" off into different menus (and
sometimes different applications entirely) when they call for help...
I actually am hoping that the next worm is much more destructive to
the infected computer. It's about time that the average end user gets
a clue as to just how bad this could get. (Frankly, most people I've
talked to don't seem to care/understand/think about the resources
consumed by millions of copies of the worms e-mailing themselves all
over the place.) It's a lot like getting a response to a safety issue
-- until the first few people die, no one really takes it seriously.
It's a very sad reality.
