I have a Canon N670U and it works just great...it was inexpensive and it is
small so it does not take up much room.

Usually higher $$ scanners have higher color depth
(48bit vs. 30bit) Or they have the capability of
scanning at a really high resolution. Or they might
have a film scanner (negatives) built in. Or it might
have some kind of sheet feeder for multiple scanning.
Hard to tell exactly. What scanners are you looking
at? What are you going to be using it for?
