FWIW, a few years ago the AAA magazine had an article about alarms which
included a questionaire that would help you decided based on where you live and
park your vehicle regularly what would be the most cost effective way
protecting your vehicle from theft.

For me living in a small suburban/rural town and not regualrly parking in
shopping malls and such the most cost effective thing was applying stickers to
the windows that said I have an alarm.

I have several of the CLUB devices that I have picked up off the clearance
tables at local stores that I use. They typically cost $10-$20. Don't help with
those breaking in to steal somthing from the car but for the casual joy rider
theaf they are quite effective.
