RE: Valve cover vent questions

Exactly.... um right. Sorry still not sure what to do. By the way, on my
engine, the vent tube that is connected to the intake manifold is on the
drivers side, and the vent tube that is connected to the airhat is on the
passenger side. I assume that only one can have a K&N style breather, that
being the one connected to the airhat...yes?

How did you set yours up Bernd? Do you have any pics of your engine bay?

Remember, the airhat is under vacuum when running - it works both ways - at
engine-off, the gases also will move into the airhat. PCV does most of the
work though.

That's not quite my understanding on how this system works. The pcv valve on
the pass. side valve cover is "the vacuum source" for the crankcase
ventilation system in that vacuum in the intake manifold determines when the
valve opens and closes. The valve, itself, is the metering device.
The hose that runs from the driver's side "breather" to the air filter
casing is the "filtered air source". Clean air is pulled from the filtered
side of the air filter housing through crankcase and then up through the PCV
valve and then into the intake manifold for burning as the engine runs.

If there is any difference in changing from the stock hose connection to the
air filter box to a push-in "breather" on the valve cover (e.g. a K&N
breather), it is only in the quality of the filtered air source. Naturally,
a poor filter or filter seal will contaminate your engine oil directly.

If there's any failure or clogging at either end of the system (pcv valve or
breather), it can cause heavy engine sludging, poor engine performance and
stalling.

The vent tube it to allow excess oil vapor (which the PCV hasn't take care

Also with my new airhat on the way, I am debating on whether or not to put a
breather on the valve cover or plumb the hose back to the airhat (it's stock
location). Suggestions? Pros or cons? While on the subject, what is the
purpose of the vent hose? TIA!
