Packaging. On a truck, you want to try to keep the engine up high for
ground clearance. Nothing says "crappy day" like a stump or rock in
your oil pan. On the Magnum, though, they can tuck it waaay down into
the chassis. Plus, they've designed the compartment around that engine
- - a Gen III Dak wasn't designed around the Hemi, and it's even cramped
in some places with the engines we do have (those last 2 spark plugs on
the driver's side of the 318/360 are a royal pain to get at, right?).

You can't just go by the raw cubic inches. It's the dimensions of the
whole engine (even the angle of the V), and where the motor mounts line
up - which will in turn locate the top, bottom, front and rear of the
engine itself. If the Hemi is taller than the 440 (I don't know if it
is or not), and the height is the limiting factor, you'll have an easier
time getting the 440 in.
