If you bought that transmission from APS, I would call on them first.

Subject: DML: HELP. Did I kill my 46RH tranny? (long)

DMLers:

ok so i had this done about 3 months ago:

 - APS 2400 T.C.
 - Transgo Shift Kit
 - New soft parts, bands, clutch packs ( we used BorgWerner parts )
 - new Over-Drive planet

so it was running fine for 3 months until
just yesterday i started getting these symptoms:

   1. when power braking, a squeal starts at 1200 rpm. it not a metal
grinding sound , just a squeal. kinda like the fan belt
squeal you sometimes hear on other cars. buts it coming from
         under the truck.

   2. when cruising in town at about 45 and you let off the gas and let
it coast, the gears are engaged and then the dis-engage. it
goes in and out of engagement every 4 to 5 seconds. i can watch
the RPMs bounce up and down as the transmission grabs and stops
       grabbing.

   3. when accelerating from a dead stop, the RPMs will swing up to 1600
and
no truck movement, then i get nasty little jerk and the truck
starts
         to roll.

4 i saw 1 or 2 flakes on the dip-stick. not metallic tho. at least
they were not shiney like metal but dull brown like fibers or
something. and the flakes did not respond to a magnet. so
it was not magnetic whatever it was.

   5. fluid is reddish but *not* brown. its not bright pink either
but then again the fluid is only 3 months old. level always seemed
a tad high but i trusted the tranny guy to fill it where it needed
to be.

   6. if i let it sit for a day and then drive it again, things seem
o.k. , that is until i power brake it again. then it goes back
to the bad behaviour. so i'm thinking HOT is the answer. when
something in the tranny is real hot it behaves this way.

   7. more info on the truck is in my signature below.

any help would be appreciated. whats the top 2 or 3 things you think
i should check.
