With 282K on the truck, I'd say it might be time for a set of bearings in
the rear. Call it maintenance. It should quiet down "some" of the whine.
The bearings in the trans are another probability. Get a price on both
jobs, and do what you can afford. Or trade it out for a truck with less
miles ;-)
