Ahhh yes, the ole breaking, rounding, drilling,........etc. complex. I
know it well. Now-a-days I just check my wallet and if funds are sufficient
for a replacement part I just have at it. If not, I won't touch it! I
seem to have some aversion to hard work lately. :-)

Yep! I find them at most any discount auto parts store under that HELP
brand. Get the ones with an extension (or nipple or snout, if you will)
that allows you to slip a hose over it and direct the water wherever you
want it.

As an alternative to removing the drain plugs, I'm guessing you might get
most of the water out of the block by removing the lower radiator hose,
remove the thermostat and reinstall the upper hose, seal an air hose nozzle
to the upper hose and try to push the remaining water out with air pressure.
Haven't personally tried it but seems do-able to me.
