Re: 2nd gen charging problem

Okay, after staring for hours (eyes bugging out) at the wiring diagrams for
my truck and for the old style VR, I think what I need to do is:
Cut the wire to cavity 14 on the 14-way PCM connector, which is the NEG FLD
wire from the alternator. This is the alternator field driver... and should
be connected instead to the added old style VR (side pin). All other factory
connections should be maintained, but an additional connection should be
made from the POS FLD to the old style VR (center pin).
The POS FLD acts as the sensor, while the NEG FLD acts as the driver. The
POS FLD is used by other engine controller circuits while the NEG FLD has
the sole purpose of driving alternator output voltage.

Does this sound right, or am I completely missing something? A big help was
a simple diagram I found at the following site for the old style VR:
http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Electrical/charging.htm. Anyone who sees
a problem with this, let me know! ...Cause I'm going to test it out
*shudder* this afternoon after I pick up an $8 VR connector (NAPA part#
ECHVRC38)

Thanks again!
