If anyone can come up with something to do in that area, I'm all for it.
I'd love to find a location that's convenient for everyone where we can
all get together and have a great time. However, I've driven through both
Kansas and Nebraska, and as far as I could tell, it's all just prairies
and farm lands. Personally, given a choice between driving 1500 miles to
get to the prairies, or driving 1800 miles to get to the Rocky Mountains,
I'll take the Rockies.

Speaking for Norah and myself, this is probably going to be our only
vacation for the entire year, so I want to find something fun to do.
Yeah, we might get a couple more people to attend if we pick a central
location in the middle of a corn field in Nebraska, but personally I'd
have more fun if there were some activities we could all participate in
other than standing around in the middle of a corn field.

Now, after sleeping on it I will agree that Lake Powell is a bit too far
to expect people from the northeast to drive. But there is an argument in
favor of moving things slightly to the west (like the Denver area). Every
year we have at least the DML BBQ in the northeast, not to mention events
like the Foxwoods Casino, Carlisle and Mopar Nats. We've all had lots of
opportunities to get together and meet each other. I think the California
people have been able to meet some of the other California people, same
for Texas. AFAIK, people in rest of the central, southern and western
parts of the country haven't had any large events like the DML BBQ. I'm
thinking this is an opportunity for those of us in the northeast to meet
some of the people from California, Texas and other parts of the country
who absolutely can't make it to the BBQ.

If Denver seems too far west for people from the northeast, then I would
encourage them to at least come out to the 2005 BBQ before deciding.
Bill, I'm thinking of you specifically, but the same might apply to other
people. These meets have a certain infectious quality. Once you've been
to one, you want to go to more. I've noticed that the people who have
been to DML meets before are the ones saying "yeah, I'm willing to drive
2000 miles for that" and the ones who want to limit their range to less
than half that are people who haven't made it to a meet yet. Maybe you
just don't like long trips and that's why you've never made it to a BBQ,
or maybe you just haven't experienced how much fun it can be.

At any rate, that's just my personal opinion, feel free to disagree or
come up with a better idea. Since we already have the BBQ in the
northeast, I'm feeling like we should make an effort with the national
meet to try to draw in the other end of the country.

Which reminds me... WE NEED MORE INTEREST FROM CALIFORNIA, TEXAS, AND THE
REST OF THE COUNTRY!!! So far on my map, I only have two people who
aren't in the northeast or Great Lakes region. I know you're out there,
speak up! I'm speaking out in favor of trying to come up with a meet that
you can make it to, so I want you people to do your part and plan on being
there!
