Yep, it happened on my truck (2000 CC 4x4 SLT 4.7) on the drivers side.
  It's the door lock actuator going out, probably. Mine made those
horrible noises for a couple of days and it was completely dead by the
time I got it replaced.

The actual part isn't that expensive, but when combined with labor it's
not particularly cheap. I didn't have the patience to try and replace
it myself since there isn't much in the way of an opening to get in
there to replace it.

My passenger's side lock makes a little bit of noise, but I think it's
just the linkage banging around (it has been doing that for about a year
and it still works fine, so I'm not going to worry about it).
