In Connecticut, technically you have to have a Connecticut permit for any
flashing/rotating light (Amber included), even if the light is off. Though
Amber & White lights are not really enforced (unless the cop is looking for a
reason). I have an Amber 8 strobe Edge 9000 bar on the roof of my ’96 Dakota
and I don’t have a permit for it. I drove the truck to Michigan last year via
Canada, it was never questioned any of the four times I crossed the border.
It’s never been questioned at all; knock on wood, even the few times I’ve been
pulled over with that truck. On the other hand, when I was on the fire Dept
and had a blue light permit, I think I was asked for the permit almost every
time the police for stopped me for something else. And in MASS, I was stopped
for the Blue light on the roof (which was off) and told to take it down or
cover it. Cop figured out of state plate = no MASS permit.
